Private Trips
A “Private trip” is a trip posted on the UNSWOC website but can be organised privately amongst club members. These trips still require two trip leaders (and at least one must have Wilderness or Remote Area First Aid) and are therefore a privilege of ‘active’ trip leaders.
Criteria for a private trip:
- The organising/primary Trip Leader must have run 2 club trips the previous term or 6 trips in the past 12 months - These must all be on separate weekends (e.g. Boree Log/Bungonia Palooza count as 1 trip).
- Approval from exec (need at least 1 week notice for approval)
- All trip participants must be current club members and added to the website trip as participants
- Must write a trip report following the trip to be posted on the website and socials (within 4 weeks) - take lots of photos!
Usual gear hire rules apply as for club trips (deposit but no rental fee, refundable on timely and clean return of gear). Note that if there is a gear shortage priority is always given to regular open club trips over private trips.
This is a new initiative that began in July of 2025, to be re-evaluated July 2026.
Subsidised Skills and First Aid Training
As a trip leader you can get access to subsidised First Aid Training on a regular basis, these tend to run at least once per year. There are also opportunities for support to do other professional training courses, pitch your idea to the exec and you may well get money towards it.
Generally these subsidies work by you paying for your course up front and then the club reimbursing you at a rate of $100 per trip you run after the course up to a maximum of $500 (5 trips). You need to contact the Treasurer to get reimbursed.
If you are in position of financial hardship the club may make alternate arrangements or offer a scholarship for you.
Experienced Trip Leader Membership Grant
This grant subsidies an experienced trip leader’s membership for the trimester in which they lead at least two trips for the club. Contact the Exec if you qualify!!!!!
Conditions:
- Grant is only available to experienced Trip Leaders (Level 2 or equivalent) that have been consistently leading trips.
- The applicant must lead at least two trips in the trimester to qualify for the grant.
- Successful applicants will be granted 1 trimester's (4 months) membership paid for by the Club.
- If the Trip Leader’s membership has less than 4 months remaining their membership period will be extended by 4 months. The idea being your membership does not have to lapse to claim the grant.
- This benefit does not multiply. Eg. You cannot lead four trips in one trimester to gain two trimesters of membership.
- The outcome of all applications will be determined by the Executive.
** PS: The exact numbers will change again when UNSW moves back to semesters
