Join Raff and Alex for an epic (read long and hard) Kanangra canyoning weekend. We’re going to target Kanangra Main canyon on Saturday and Sunday will be decided on Saturday night once we know how tired everyone is.
We will camp at Boyd River campground. You will need to arrive on Friday night. Bring camping gear and food for 2 days.
You need to have
- Prior canyoning experience (bonus points if you can rig releasable systems)
- Experience abseiling big drops (40m+)
- Endurance & fitness. Kanangra is a long hard day with lots of elevation gain
- Ability to swim. This is a wet canyon with pools of up to 50m
What to bring
- Modified Eight* (a basic Figure 8 is not good enough)
- Helmet *
- Canyoning Harness *
- Full length wetsuit *
- 3x Locking Carabiners *
- Safety (a 120cm sling works) *
- Drybag or keg *
- Canyon pack *
- Headtorch
- Emergency blanket (can be bought from gear cupboard for $5)
- Swimmers (for under your wetsuit)
- Wool or wetsuit socks
- Thermals
- Raincoat
- Old shoes with good grip
- 2L of water
- Lunch
- Snacks (personal and to share)
- Hiking clothes (will get wet on the walk out)
- Dry clothes and a towel (for the car)
- Medications you require (e.g asthma puffer, epipen)
If you have your own gear please bring it. Nothing you wear in the canyon can be cotton, this includes socks and underwear!
