“You need to be approved for the main Boree Log event to attend these trips. Please sign up for only ONE trip per day. If you get rejected you can then sign up for another trip, this just makes it easier for volunteer trip leaders. Please be aware that as the weather is unpredictable, trip leaders may need to alter trips accordingly”
Join Gabi and myself (Oliver) for a fun, big day of canyoning on Sunday at Boree Log!
This will be a full day – think 8 hours start to finish – so you must have a high enough level fitness, and some experience abseiling already (you don’t need to have done a canyon before). Expect multiple abseils, hiking on steep and slippery slopes, and cold swims. Have a look at the notes here: https://ozultimate.com/canyoning/track_notes/bowens_creek_south.htm, and if you’re accepted, it would be good to have a look through them prior to the day. When applying, how much abseiling/canyon experience you have, and importantly, whats your favourate fairy tale?
It’s critical that every bon this trip has the right gear:
Gear available to borrow from the club (this will all be brought to Boree Log, you don’t need to hire beforehand). Please bring your own if you have:
- Harness
- Helmet
- 3x locking carabiners
- 1x Figure 8 / Descender
- 1x Safety sling
- Drybag
- Wetsuit
- Backpack that can fit ALL your gear and that can get wet (30L+)
Other gear you must bring
- Enclosed shoes with good grip, suitable for water and bushwalking
- Thick socks – you don’t want freezing cold feet all day
- Boardshorts to wear on top of wetsuit (compulsory to protect the club wetsuits)
- Thermals and raincoat – important extra layers of warmth, I’ll be checking
- Optional: beanie and gloves (a beanie can be worn under your helmet for warmth, and gloves for warmth and for abseiling).
- Swimmers for under wetsuit
- NO COTTON! (this includes socks, shirts, pants, undies, etc)
- A set of clothes to wear for the hike in an out – standard hiking clothes and hat, preferably long sleeves and pants for sun/insect/snake protection
- Towel and clean clothes for the car ride home (you don’t want to be wet in the car!)
- 2L of water
- An easy lunch
- Lots of high energy snacks to share
- Any personal medication (asthma puffer, Epipen etc)
- Headtorch
- Emergency blanket – (can buy from Gear Cupboard for $5 or from chemists, shops, etc)
If you don’t have everything listed, for your safety we won’t be able to take you on the trip.
If you’ve read everything and feel like you’d be a good fit, apply now!
Hope to see you at Boree Log 🙂
