“You need to be approved for the main Boree Log event to attend these trips. Please sign up for only ONE trip per day. If you get rejected you can then sign up for another trip, this just makes it easier for volunteer trip leaders. Please be aware that as the weather is unpredictable, trip leaders may need to alter trips accordingly”

Hello!

Have you ever wanted to attach yourself to a rope and slide down a cliff?

Ever been to the Three Sisters lookout and wondered what was over the edge?

Wow do I have the perfect trip for you!

There are few abseil trips as spectacular as this one while being beginner friendly 🙂

We will start the day by driving about 30 mins from the campground and scrounging street parking in Katoomba before walking about 10 minutes to Malaita Point Lookout.

Elliot and I will then teach/refresh you how to abseil, before we start abseiling off larger and larger cliffs, and enjoying a little bit of rock scrambling before finding ourselves square in the valley at Federal Pass.

951 steps later, you’ll conquer the Furber Steps before finding yourself at Coles/The Pub/Your Car for the trip back to campground, in time for dinner and festivities.

Malaita Point Abseiling | High and Wild

What to bring:

  • Rain jacket
    • (it is very windy on the side of a cliff and you will get very cold)
    • We won’t get wet (unless it rains, which it may)
  • Comfortable enclosed shoes and hiking clothes are fine.
  • Gloves
    • (optional but leather/synthetic work gloves are ideal for protecting your hands from the friction of the rope)
  • Headtorch
  • Lunch and snacks to share
  • 2L of water

Technical Gear:

If you have the below technical gear, then please BYO. Otherwise, collect this from the campground in the morning.

  • Harness, Helmet, Safety sling, Figure 8 descender, 2 locking carabiners

If you are afraid of heights, this trip is NOT for you!

We say beginner friendly, but standing on the edge of a valley can be scary for anyone. If you are already afraid of heights, then please do not join this trip.

Sounds like fun?

Sign-ups open: 7am, Monday 5 October

In your signup comment, please include:

  • Your abseiling experience
  • Your general outdoors experience
  • A confirmation that you are not afraid of heights
  • If you were a kitchen utensil, what kind would you be and why?

See you there 🙂
