There is a hidden question somewhere in the trip brief. Please make sure to answer it in the booking comment (+ all the questions at the bottom of the post) so I know you’ve read the entire thing.

To rebel against a worrying trend among club members enjoying squeezing themselves through tight and narrow holes in the ground (otherwise known as caving), Hammy and I will be running a intermediate sport climbing trip to the Nest crag next Sunday (5th of July). This is an intermediate trip due to cliff safety so it’s expected that have you been outdoor climbing before however, there are lots of climbs in the low teens so don’t feel pressured to climb hard. If you want to check out the climbs available here’s the link. Hidden question: What is the worse part of caving? Make it up if you haven’t tried it before.

The plan for the day is to meet at parking at 9 am and spend the day climbing with the aim to be back at the cars at ~5:00 pm. It is a fair 20-30 min hike into the crag so be prepared for some walking.

Things to bring:
  • Water (minimum 2L)
  • Food (lunch and snacks)
  • Climbing shoes * + chalk (optional but helpful)
  • Harness *
  • Helmet *
  • Belay device (atc or gri gri) *
  • Locking carabiner *
  • Backpack to carry your gear
  • Sturdy walking shoes for approach
  • Warm jacket (it will most likely be freezing in the morning)

* gear that can be borrowed from gear cupboard on Thursday, if you need gear but can’t make it let us know and we’ll pick it up for you.

In your comment below let us know your climbing experience, whether you have a car (and how many spots) and answer the hidden question.

Once you’ve been accepted onto the trip we will be creating a messenger group chat to organise carpooling so please make sure that your facebook profile is linked on your UNSWOC account.

If you have any questions, feel free to message me.
