
HOLIDAYS ARE OVER BUT THE FUN ISN’T!!! Get SUPER MEGA KEEN because the most amazing weekend of the year is here! To those of you familiar, no description is required. To the new people Boree Log is the club’s bi-annual trip where EVERYONE is encouraged to come out to the great outdoors to participate in Climbing, Canyoning, Bushwalking, Caving, Slack-lining or whatever takes your fancy! Never mind if you have no experience with these things, this is your chance to give it a go!
(Like all our regular trips you need to be a current member to attend)
LOCATION:
Bendeela camping area – Kangaroo valley
SO WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?:
- Login to the website. Sign up to this Boree Log event. Wait for approval. People with cars will get preference so please bring your car!
- Find the facebook event on facebook. (This is where trips and transport will be arranged)
- Once your spot has been approved, LOOK OUT FOR INDIVIDUAL TRIPS on the facebook event – sign up to these on the website (ONLY ONE TRIP for Saturday and ONE for Sunday).
- Wait for approval from individual trips.
- Arrange transport (on the facebook event)
- Find access to personal gear (e.g. sleeping mats, sleeping bag, thermals, head-torch, etc.) + make sure you have food and alcohol and WATER for the weekend + get a COSTUME (theme Too big or Too small)!!
- Come along, meet new people and have fun! 😀
SCHEDULE:
- FRIDAY NIGHT:
- Everyone drives to Bendeela and camps. You need to arrange your own lifts on the Boree Log FB event – remember to split petrol costs with the other people in your car.
- There maybe no phone service at the campsite so keep this in mind!
- SATURDAY DAYTIME:
- Climbing/canyoning/bushwalking/Slacklining/Caving – whatever trip you sign up for (note that you need to sign up to THIS EVENT to get a spot on Boree Log, and then you need to SIGN UP SEPARATELY to individual trips posted on this website. Max 1 trip per day)
- SATURDAY NIGHT: THEMED PARTY NIGHT!
- On Saturday night we’ll feast and FIESTA!
- Theme: TOO BIG OR TOO SMALL – that one piece of clothing you outgrew but still have? Or grandpa’s jacket in the back of your closet? Or both? Prizes for best dressed will be awarded!
- There will also be Punch of Punishment. Don’t forget to nominate any friends who have done silly or humorous things during the year!
- BYO alcohol
- Food is provided for Saturday night only! Please bring your own food for the rest of the weekend. (Make sure your allergies are in your unswoc account information)
- SUNDAY DAYTIME:
- Climbing/canyoning/bushwalking/Slacklining/Caving – whatever you sign up for (note that you need to sign up SEPARATELY to individual trips)
- And driving back to Sydney (your responsibility to arrange transport with those on the same trips as you)
WHAT IF I JUST WANT TO CHILL?: If all you want is to come for a camping trip, chill at the campsite and slackline, party, meet new people etc., then specify “Camping only, NO trips” in the comments section, and we are happy to have extra company (up until our COVID capacity).
WHAT IF I ONLY WANT TO COME FOR ONE DAY?: Thats fine! Just specify on the sign up “NO camping, Just Saturday/Sunday trip” then sign up to the trip you would like. (Keep in mind that transport to or from your trip back to Sydney may be limited and depending on the trip there may be no access to public transport). Priority will be given to Saturday night campers.
WHAT TO BRING:
- BRING WATER and FOOD!! – 4-5L per day per person is a good estimate of how much water to bring. Food is only provided for Saturday night.
- Cooking and camping equipment. Sleeping bag and sleeping mat and tent (the club has some in the cupboard but supply is limited)
- CASH for Sharing Petrol Costs
- WARM CLOTHES! – It is much colder than Sydney when camping.
- Sun protection and rain protection, it may be hot it may be rainy it may be cold. Be prepared.
- If you are canyoning, try to bring your own wetsuit because the club can’t guarantee we’ll have enough/your size. Also bring a PAIR OF SHORTS to protect the seat of the wetsuit
If you don’t know what to bring, here’s a packing list. The club will be able to provide you technical equipment, but if you have your own wetsuits, harnesses, climbing gear etc., please BRING IT.
Note:
- Toilet facilities – drop toilets. No running water. Bring toilet paper!
- No electricity (so no, don’t bring your hairdryer), and No microwaves (yes we’ve been asked both those questions before! :P)
COST:
- Boree Log is a FREE event for UNSWOC members. No camping fees.
- If you car share: Petrol for your driver (arrange this with the driver ahead of time and BRING THE CASH. Reasonable $10-$20 per way)
