Hey Everyone!

If you’ve just joined the club, we have the perfect event for you! We want to get to know you better so we will be running a social hike in the stunning Berowra Valley National Park on Saturday 19th September (end of Week 1). This is a great area very close to Sydney and some of the loveliest untouched bushland nearby!

If hiking really isn’t your thing, then come over to The Ledge on Thursday afternoons, or keep an eye out on our Instagram / Facebook page for details about our Welcome BBQ.

Where is it?

The walk starts at Berowra train station (very frequent trains from the city), before following the Lyrebird Gully circuit down to Naa Badu Lookout for a spectacular snack break 🌄. We then continue into the Berowra Valley, past some Mangroves 🌴🌴 and the tranquil Place of Winds 🍃, before climbing up the stairs out to Mt Kuringgai Station 🚃.

The route map is here – all up, 11km.
Fun fact, this section is a small part of the epic 260km Great North Walk!

We will meet at Berowra Station at 10:30am. Expect to be back at Mt Kuringgai station around 4pm.

Who can come?

This event is mainly for the new members who have just started uni, are looking to join the club soon, or joined the club recently (maybe at the o-week stall 👀).

This trip is very beginner friendly, assuming you have a base level of fitness and can comfortably walk 11km in a day. No prior bushwalking / hiking experience is needed.

We will take plenty of breaks and nobody will be left behind 🙂

What to bring?

  • Backpack to hold your belongings
  • Sun protection: Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen
  • Sturdy, enclosed shoes – definitely not a hike for thongs.
  • At least 2L of water
  • Lunch
  • Rain jacket (check the weather)
  • Any personal medication you may need

You will be turned back if you do not have appropriate supplies 🙂

Sounds great! How do I sign up?

You don’t need to join the club just yet* to come along on this trip, however you do need to sign up to the website (no need to pay the fee).

Then, scroll down to the bottom of this page. There will be a comment box and a button saying “Request to join this trip“.

Please answer all of the following in the comment box:

  • How you will be getting to Berowra
  • Any prior hiking experience
  • When you joined the club
  • Your favourite type of tree (so that I know you were paying attention)

If you have any troubles, feel free to reach out to me, Sudarshan – my email is president [at] unswoc.org

If you can’t see the comment box, you might not be signed in.

Can’t wait to see you all there!
