Howdy, yall
Hammy here, and I’m also the head chef for Saturday night’s Boree Log feast. This is the kick your boots up and relax option, no driving anywhere, no crack of dawn start. We’re parking ourselves at Bonnie Doon Campground (286 Darling Causeway, Bell) to swim, jump off things, and cook up something special for the whole camp. In the morning we’ll go for a swim and have a go at the deep water solo wall right by camp, then maybe wander around the 500-acre property and play with some ropes if yall are curious. Around the middle of the day, yall will be my kitchen crew. I’ll have all the ingredients for a mystery dinner, and we’ll prep it together for Saturday night. What’s on the menu? Can’t tell yall yet. No experience needed, just a willingness to chop things and not eat the ingredients. The rest of the afternoon is board games, frisbee, ball tossing, hammock time, and general campground shenanigans.
Trip details:
Date: Saturday 17 October
Time: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Location: Bonnie Doon Campground, Bell
Difficulty: Very relaxed. No fitness or climbing experience needed.
Weather: I’m no weatherman, so it could be chilly or not, so better to bring layers. If it’s too cold or wet, the swimming plan may change, but the cooking and games are weatherproof.
What to bring:
- Your own lunch and snacks (the club’s got dinner covered, but lunch is on yall)
- Water (at least 2L)
- Swimmers and a towel (non-negotiable)
- Warm layers and a rain jacket
- Sun protection (hat, sunscreen)
- Shoes you’re happy getting wet (old sneakers or water shoes)
- Dry change of clothes
- Personal medication (asthma puffer, EpiPen, etc.)
- A game, frisbee, ball or board/party games, if you have one
- Climbing shoes* (optional)
- Helmet* (optional, for anyone who wants extra caution on the wall)
*Items with an asterisk can be borrowed from the club gear cupboard
To sign up: Comment below with your swimming/climbing experience (none is fine), any dietary requirements, and your answer to the hidden question: You’re given $10,000 to ruin a stranger’s day in a way that’s legal but devastating. What’s the plan?
Once you’re accepted, I’ll create a Messenger group chat to organize and other details, so please make sure your Facebook profile is linked to your UNSWOC account.
Any questions, message me.
See y’all out there,
Hammy
