(FULL) Beginner Canyoning – YILEEN

Join Alfie, Emily, Jayden and I (Amelia) on this beginner friendly canyoning trip through Yileen Canyon.

It will be an all day event, with some abseils (including a 50m abseil!), scrambling (down climbing) and perhaps a jump dependent on water levels.

We will arrange car pooling (please mention in comment if you have a car and how many people you can take) and will meet at 8:30 am at the Mt Wilson turnoff on Bells Line of Road (south side) (-33.546180, 150.336442). Please be on time! We will leave a car at Pierces Pass for the car shuffle at the end. Please read the canyon track notes here. 

GEAR:

Please note that this is a long day, with very few bailout options. Double, triple check you have all of the items on this list BEFORE leaving Sydney.

Can be borrowed from the gear cupboard if you don’t have your own (see Facebook for gear cupboard opening time – you must go get this stuff yourself and don’t forget your cash deposit!):

• Dry bag
• Helmet
• Harness
• Descender (figure 8)
• Safety Sling
• 2 x locking carabiners
• 3-5mm wetsuit
• Emergency blanket (can be purchased from the club for $5 or from any outdoor store)

What you need to supply:

• Enclosed grippy shoes (these will get wet and muddy)
• Wool or neoprene socks (no cotton)
• Shorts (to go over and protect your wetsuit)
• Rain/spray jacket
• Headtorch
• Thermals (no cotton)
• Warm clothes
• At least 2L of water
• Food and snacks for the day
• Sunscreen + hat
• Personal medication (e.g. epipen, asthma puffer)
• (Optional) Gloves

• Backpack to fit all of the above (will get wet)

It will be first in first served for getting on this trip, and you will be rejected if you miss any of the required information in your sign up comment.
