Hello epic adventurers!
The weather is finally getting nice and it’s time for a hike/camping trip!!
Liam and I will be running (as in organizing, not jogging) a beginner-friendly, over-night hike this Saturday and Sunday! We will be doing The Coast Track, a gorgeous 26km hike through The Royal National Park. The hike traverses across pristine beaches and amazing sandstone cliffs. So bring your SWIMMERS and keep your eyes out for WALES!!
We will be starting from Bundeena Wharf and exiting at Otford station.
Detailed tracknotes for the hike can be found here here.
This is an OVERNIGHT hiking trip. No experience is needed but keep in mind you will be carrying ALL OF YOUR GEAR (tent, sleeping bag, food for 2 days, etc.) so a certain level of fitness is needed.
NOTE: Don’t panic about gear! If you do NOT have all your own gear you can rent gear from the club on WEDNESDAYS for FREE. Just say you are borrowing it for this trip.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Hiking pack – Must be big enough to carry all the things listed below. Can be rented from the club
- Sleeping bag – Because we are on the coast there can be some cold winds. You’ll want something warm to crawl into!
- Sleeping mat – not essential but MUCH more comfortable!! The club has a few
- Tent – We will contact you all about tents. If you have one you can share that would be great! If not that’s also ok, we will organize to grab you one! Keep in mind that you will need space for the tent in your pack!!
- Head-torch – Very important
- Toiletries – General things, including some toilet paper.
- Sunscreen – Spring is here and so is the Australian sun. Make sure you bring lots of sunscreen and apply every few hours!
- Water – With the hot weather water is extremely important. Bring AT LEAST 5L of water. There are only a few places to fill up on the way and THERE IS NO WATER WHERE WE CAMP! You should try to DRINK 4 OR 5L OF WATER throughout the day!
- Lunch – You must provide your OWN lunch for Saturday AND Sunday.
- Breakfast – You must provide your OWN breakfast for Sunday morning
- Dinner – We will be providing dinner for y’all, so let us know if you have any dietary requirements!! BRING YOUR OWN BOWL AND UTENSILS.
- Snacks – We’ll be doing a lot of exercise, so make sure you bring lots of snacks to keep your energy levels up! Bring things like nuts, fruit, dried fruit, lollies, biscuits, chocolate, muesli bars, etc. Enough for BOTH days.
- Appropriate clothes – Appropriate hiking shoes, Hat, sun glasses, light clothes (you will get hot!), a jumper and raincoat in case of bad weather. Thermals and beanie (if you have them) to be snugly at night!
- SWIMMERS!
- First Aid Kit – If you have one
PLAN OF ATTACK:
- We will be meeting at UNSW, at the SAM CRACKNEL PAVILION at 7:30 AM. We have to leave UNSW at 8:00 AM at the VERY latest, so please try to be there at 7:30.
- We will be catching public transport so bring your OPAL-cards and some cash!
- We will also be getting home via public transport.
If you have any questions, look for Liam Hayes or Matilda Barlow on the UNSWOC facebook page and send us a message!
Cheers!!
