Want a chill Sunday canyon after an epic Saturday night at Boree Log? Well then Raff, Lachie & I (Phoebe) are running a quick trip through Grand Canyon & you should come along.

“You need to be approved for the main Boree Log event to attend these trips. Please sign up for only ONE trip per day. If you get rejected you can then sign up for another trip, this just makes it easier for volunteer trip leaders. Please be aware that as the weather is unpredictable, trip leaders may need to alter trips accordingly”

This is a short canyon with one abseil of about 20m and lots of lovely swims. That being said you’ll need to be able to swim up to 30m and have reasonable fitness for the hike out. Head torches are also mandatory as it gets dark in some sections (these should be waterproof).

Please make you sure bring ALL required gear. Some gear is available to borrow from camp but it is limited – if you have any of your own please bring it!

Gear available to borrow from the club:

  • Harness
  • Helmet
  • 3x locking carabiners
  • 1x Figure 8 / Descender
  • 1x Safety sling
  • Drybag
  • Wetsuit (5mm preferable)

Other gear you MUST bring:

  • Backpack that can fit ALL your gear and that can get wet (30L+)
  • Clothing:
    • Enclosed shoes with good grip, suitable for water and bushwalking
    • Wool or neoprene socks
    • Boardshorts to wear on top of wetsuit (compulsory to protect the club wetsuits)
    • Thermals and raincoat
    • Swimmers for under wetsuit
    • NO COTTON! (this includes socks, shirts, pants, undies, etc)
  • Food:
    • 2L of water (minimum)
    • Lunch
    • Snacks to share (with me)
  • Other:
    • Medication (Asthma puffer, Epipen etc)
    • Headtorch + spare batteries
    • Emergency blanket – (can buy from Gear Cupboard for $5 or from chemists, shops, etc)

To let me know you have read this far please answer this secret question and tell me how many apples is the max amount a person should eat in a day.

In your comment please also put:

  • Your fitness level
  • Your swimming ability
  • Your canyoning experience
  • What snack you will be bringing to share with me 🙂 (chocolate is NOT allowed!!!)

If you have any questions on your suitability for the trip or any general questions please send myself or one of the other TLs a message. If you’ve been rejected, make sure you’ve answered the secret question 🙂
