Beginner Sport Climbing at Shipley Upper – Saturday

Hi everyone,

This Saturday Zee and I (Jack) will be running a sport climbing trip to Shipley Upper in the Blue Mountains! This is a great beginner crag, and would suit those looking to go climbing outdoors for the first time, or anyone else keen to develop their skills. The walk-in is fairly short, and there are plenty of climbs in the range of grades from 15-20.

The plan is to meet up at 10am on Saturday morning at the Shipley carpark near Blackheath, and climb until late in the afternoon. We will arrange car-pooling, or if you are travelling by public transport, we can arrange to pick you up from the Blackheath train station.

Please include in the comments: your climbing experience, whether you are able to drive, where you are driving from, and your favourite crag snack. Any gear that you require must be collected independently from the gear cupboard at UNSW this Thursday at 5pm.

• Gear*: harness, helmet, climbing shoes, ATC + carabiner (if you have your own make sure you bring it!!!)
• What to bring: sunscreen, 2L water (minimum!), food for the day, sporty clothes, a warm jacket (the Blue Mountains often gets really cold!), a day backpack to fit all your stuff inside, camera, smiles, etc.
• Meeting point: 10am at Shipley carpark.
