Sunday of Boree Log; a time of much regret at your abilities to gauge how many standard drinks are in the Punch of Punishment. But fear not! Caity and I are your salvation, for we are leading an expedition of curious hikers to Donkey Mountain. This isn’t your typical hike; nay, we are the heroic Theseus, venturing deep into our labyrinth of mountainous rock features in search for the Minotaur/Donkey. But we’re not preoccupied with slaying mythical creatures; we’re smashing out some good rock scrambling and satisfying general explorative curiosity, although that being said, hopefully we aren’t visited by the mythical Blue Mountains Black Panther …
ANYWAY, I digress. Basically, we are going to leave the campsite Sunday morning by 10am (ish) and drive to close to the mountain. Then, we will be spending the rest of the day navigating around and simply enjoying the outdoors, eventually heading straight back to Sydney by 5pm.
NOTE: To get to this wonderland you first must climb to the top of Donkey Mountain. This is a STEEP and arduous hill, so a HIGH level of fitness is paramount. However, this strenuous climb is totally worth it, because once we are up we can spend the whole day exploring the labyrinth of wonders.
For those who are keen, please bring at least the following hiking gear:
- Head-torch – Very important. If we get stuck in the dark you will have a horrible time descending
- Sunscreen – Spring is here and so is the Australian sun. Make sure you bring lots of sunscreen and apply every few hours!
- Water – Minimum 2L
- Lunch – You must provide your OWN lunch.
- Snacks – We’ll be doing a lot of exercise, so make sure you bring lots of snacks to keep your energy levels up! Bring things like nuts, fruit, dried fruit, lollies, biscuits, chocolate, muesli bars, etc.
- Shoes – Hiking shoes or boots with good grip
- Appropriate clothes – Hat, light clothes (you will get hot!), a jumper and raincoat in case of bad weather.
- First Aid Kit – If you have one.
In the comment please let us know if you have a car & how many seats, and have a read through Sam May’s incredible trip report to tell us your favourite feature name on the Donkey Mountain map (so we know you’ve read this far):
