SATURDAY BL – Beginner Climbing Dam Cliffs

Caity and I (Pat) are leading a beginner climbing trip to Dam Cliffs. It’s a chill crag with some nice climbs ranging mostly from beginner to intermediate routes. There’s also some deep water soloing/swimming at the dam itself which can always be a good way to end (or maybe start) the day. You must be approved for Boree Log to attend. 

We’ll be setting up topropes on a bunch of climbs, so you don’t need any climbing experience to join this trip. If you want to learn skills like lead climbing or anchor cleaning, let us know! If you’re a competent lead climber and belayer, you’re also more than welcome to join. In the sign up comment let us know how much climbing experience you’ve got and what gear you have already.

We’ll be heading directly from camp in the morning, so most of the gear you need will be provided – you don’t need to hire anything from the gear cupboard beforehand. If you have your own gear, please bring it with you! For this trip, you’ll need:

• Climbing gear: Helmet*, harness*, belay device*, locking carabiner*, climbing shoes, maybe chalk bag.
  • * These will be provided on the day if you haven’t got your own
• For clothing: Clothes that you feel comfortable climbing in, extra layers and raincoat in case the weather isn’t very favourable. If you want to head out to the dam or deep water solo, bring swimmers/a spare change of clothes and towel.
• For eating: 2L of water, food or snacks.
• Other gear: sunscreen, medicines if you need them (asthma puffer, etc).

Please mention if you’ve got a car when you sign up – the number of attendees will depend on the number of cars we’ve got available.

You need to be approved for the main Boree Log event to attend these trips. Please sign up for only ONE trip per day. If you get rejected you can then sign up for another trip, this just makes it easier for volunteer trip leaders.

Please be aware that as the weather is unpredictable, trip leaders may need to alter trips accordingly
