******************

I’ve been speaking to the folks at Grit climbing and we’ve come up with an exciting opportunity exclusive for club members! We’re offering an 8 week climbing course to help you improve and learn to train self sufficiently.

Grit climbing’s course will not only teach you to climb better, but to teach you how to improve independently. They aim to impart all the knowledge needed to identify and work on personal weaknesses, how to effectively train, how to plan training programmes over a range of timescales and, most importantly, how to coach eachother and excel at the sport together.

Climbing is a sport that is 60% skill and 40% strength and so training plans that focus on purely the strength aspect of climbing miss out on key components that have a major impact on climbing. Grit’s philosophy is that training should be more focused on techniques before anything else (for example, endurance, strength and power training). This is why the first part of the course will be focused on building climbing basics, correcting any bad habits you’ve picked up and creating a solid foundation for improvement. The second part of the course will then be building the skills and teamwork to become independent and continue improve once the course is over.

The price for the full course is $160, not including gym entry and gear hire. This amount is subsidised by the club so don’t miss out! In addition to this, if you lead a trip or have lead a trip in the past 12 months the price will be further subsidised to $140. The location will most probably be at 9D waterloo, however it could be possible to move to the Ledge if the cost proves prohibitive. The timings are not yet set and will be finalised according to the availability of the people who sign up.

There are only 15 spots available and it will be first come first serve so make sure you sign up quick! Signups will open TOMORROW (Sunday 27th March) at 5PM here.

Please note that this is not for absolute beginners, you should have 3-6 months of climbing experience. If you still want to please sign up, but preference will be given to those with some experience. Please let me know your experience level in the comments.
