BOREE LOG 16-18 March 2018 – THEME: St patrick in the enchanted forest

To those of you familiar, no description is required. To the new people Boree Log is the club’s bi-annual trip where EVERYONE is encouraged to come out to the great outdoors to participate in Climbing, Canyoning, Bushwalking, Caving, Slack-lining or whatever takes your fancy! Never mind if you have no experience with these things, this is your chance to give it a go!

(like all our trips you need to be a current member though)

LOCATION:

Mt Wilson campground (Cathedral Reserve) – https://www.mtwilson.com.au/things-to-do/camping

SCHEDULE:

  • FRIDAY NIGHT:
    • Everyone drives to Mt Wilson and camps. You will be expected to arrange your own lifts on the Boree Log FB transport Page – you will be expected to split petrol costs with the other people in your car
    • There is no cell service at the campsite so keep this in mind!
  • SATURDAY DAYTIME:
    • Climbing/canyoning/bushwalking/Slacklining/Caving – whatever you sign up for (note that you need to sign up to THIS EVENT to get a spot on Boree Log, and then you need to SIGN UP SEPARATELY to individual trips posted on this website)
  • SATURDAY NIGHT: THEMED PARTY NIGHT!
    • On Saturday night we’ll feast (provided)* and partaaaaay!
    • Theme: St Patrick in the Enchanted Forest
    • There will also be Punch of Punishment. Don’t forget to nominate any friends who have done silly or humorous things during the year!
    • BYO alcohol folks
    • *Food is only provided on Saturday night. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN FOOD for the rest of the weekend
  • SUNDAY DAYTIME:
    • Climbing/canyoning/bushwalking/Slacklining/Caving – whatever you sign up for (note that you need to sign up SEPARATELY to individual trips)
    • And driving back to Sydney (your responsibility to arrange transport with those on the same trips as you)

SO WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?:

  1. Login to the website. Sign up to this Boree Log event. wait for approval**
  2. Once your spot has been approved, LOOK OUT FOR INDIVIDUAL TRIPS on to be posted on Thursday 08 Mar 12pm – sign up to these on the website + MESSAGE TRIP LEADER your details (esp your experience level and whether or not you have a car!!)
  3. Arrange transport (see BL Transport Page)
  4. Wait for approval from individual trips. ONCE ONE TRIP IS APPROVED CANCEL OTHER BOOKINGS IMMEDIATELY so that others have a chance to sign up. Clear up your bookings by Wed 14/03 9am, or WE will choose for you
  5. Go shopping for gear the club doesn’t provide (e.g. sleeping mats, sleeping bag, thermals, drybag for canyoners etc.) + make sure you have food and alcohol and WATER for the weekend + get a COSTUME!! (Climbing Anchors is having an exclusive DISCOUNT NIGHT for UNSWOC members on Wed 14/03 from 5pm, so that might help if you need gear :))
  6. Come along, meet new people and have fun! 😀

WHAT IF I JUST WANT TO CHILL?: Places on the trip are limited because there are only so many trip leaders to run day trips. BUT…If all you want is to come for a camping trip, chill at the campsite and slackline, party, meet new people etc., then specify “Camping only, NO trips” in the comments section, and we are happy to have extra company – i.e. you can have a spot even if the event is full 🙂 (BUT…if you do choose this option, you CANNOT change your mind later and try to sign up for trips later)

WHAT TO BRING:

  • BRING WATER and FOOD!! –  NO WATER PROVIDED AT CAMPSITE
  • Cultery and bowl/plate for Saturday night
  • Change for Sharing Petrol Costs
  • Sleeping bag and sleeping mat ($10 or less for a foam/yoga mat from Kmart)
  • WARM CLOTHES! – It is much colder than Sydney up there
  • If you are canyoning, try to bring your own wetsuit because the club can’t guarantee we’ll have enough/your size. Also bring a PAIR OF SHORTS to protect the seat of the wetsuit

If you don’t know what to bring, here’s a useful guide (http://unswoc.org/wordpress/events-18/boree-log-packing-list/ ) The club will be able to provide you technical equipment, but if you have your own wetsuits, harnesses, misc climbing gear etc., please bring it, because supplies are limited. The club will also have a number of tents for people to sleep in, but again, if you have your own, bring it also. The club has NO sleeping mats or sleeping bags. It’ll be colder than in Sydney, so at least bring a dooner and a cheap yoga mat from kmart if you don’t have a sleeping bag.

Note:

Toilet facilities – drop toilets. No running water.

No electricity (so no, don’t bring your hairdryer), and No microwaves (yes we’ve been asked both those questions before! :P)

**take note that even if the website shows ’10 spaces left’ or whatever, there could still be more people than that in the waiting list before you (that haven’t been approved yet). So don’t assume you have a spot til you get confirmation

COST:

No camping fees

If you car share: Petrol for your driver (arrange this with the driver ahead of time and BRING THE CASH)
