***EVENT NOW FULL – remaining sign up space is so that people can sign up to a wait list***
Hey y’all. It’s finally here!!!
BOREE LOG is finally back, just after term 1 exams, and you don’t want to miss this!
For anyone who’s been to BOREE LOG before, this event requires little introduction… but for anyone else, this is UNSWOC’s premiere bi-annual event where we take a huge group of you away for a weekend of incredible fun, endless trips, dinner, camping and more!
This year we are going to Cathedral of Ferns campground in the Blue Mountains. The theme this year is POLAR so get your icy gear ready! Sound good? Here are the details:
Friday 13th of May:
- Most people arrive Friday evening
- We will be helping to organise car pooling to get everyone there (If you have a car, make sure you let us know when you sign up how many people you can take and where from!)
- Everyone cooks their own dinner Friday evening (we will provide dinner Saturday Night)
Saturday 14th of May:
- We split into smaller groups for various trips. These trips will leave early, so it’s best to drive up Friday night.
- Once you have signed up to this main event, you will be able to sign up to individual Saturday and Sunday trips (More details below)
- Go on an epic hike, climb, canyon, boulder etc with your group. This is the perfect opportunity to try a sport you’ve always wanted to.
- Everyone comes back to the campground in the evening
- DINNER AND PARTY!!!
- We will be providing dinner, there will be a best-dressed prize for the POLAR THEME
- PUNCH OF PUNISHMENT – nominate your friends who have done something silly, stupid or slightly irresponsible on outdoor trips
- BYO Alcohol if you want drinks
Sunday 15th of May:
- Wake up, pack up and have breakfast (self-provided)
- Same as Saturday, split off into smaller groups for another day of fun trips
- Each trip will be heading straight back to Sydney that afternoon, no coming back to the campground, so don’t leave anything
Here is the trip schedule: (subject to modifications)
How do I sign up:
- Log onto the website and request to sign up to this main event. Main event signups open Sunday, 1st of May, at 6pm!
- WAIT FOR APPROVAL! All approvals will be done by Thursday 5th of May
- In your Signup request, make sure to tell us if you have a car, how many people you can take and where from, and any dietary requirements (people with cars get preference in signups)
- Once you have been approved to the main event, request to sign up to ONE Saturday trip and ONE Sunday trip only. Signups for these will open Friday 6th at 9am! Get in quick
- Individual Trip signups will be approved by Wednesday the 11th
- Organize car pooling via the shared Google sheet – find someone driving from near you and message them if they have a spot for you. Fill out the Google sheet once you have a spot
- Go shopping for the gear the club does not provide (more details on this below, including tents, sleeping bags, mats, drinking water, food, head torches etc)
- Get excited ‘cos you’re about to go away for the best weekend!
What if I just want to come and camp, but not go on trips
- This is totally alright, just let us know in your signup request that you are only coming to camp. Note, you probably can’t change your mind about this when you get to Boree Log because all the individual trips will be full by then!
What do I need to bring! (IMPORTANT)
- Food and Water – There is no drinking water at the campground so bring your own! We will only be providing dinner on Saturday night. There is also no power so bring a camping cooker or food that doesn’t need to be cooked
- Tent – If you have your own tent, please bring it. The club has a very limited number of tents that can be borrowed from the gear cupboard, these are first-come-first-served.
- Sleeping Bag and Sleeping Mat – You need to bring your own as it will be cold at this time of year, and a yoga mat/blanket will not be a fun night’s sleep for you
- WARM CLOTHES – This BOREE LOG will be a lot colder than usual as it’s later in the year. As much as we’re hoping for warm weather and clear skies, please be prepared for cold nights and rain if need be!
- Technical equipment (e.g. harnesses, rope, helmets) will be provided by the club at BOREE LOG for those that don’t have their own. You do not borrow this gear from the gear cupboard beforehand.
- If you are canyoning, bring your own wetsuit if you have one (though the club does have ones that can be borrowed), also bring thermals as it will be particularly cold in canyons this time of year!
- Check this packing list if you are unsure what else to bring.
- Personal items (e.g. toiletries, face mask, head torches, rain jackets, day pack, personal first aid kits, SUNSCREEN, cutlery, plate/bowl, water bottle, alcohol for Saturday night if you want)
- If you’ve read all the info up to here, thank you. Let me know your favorite native Australian animal in your signup comment (it just might improve your preference for getting a spot cause I know you’ve actually read the info)
Other Frequently Asked questions:
- Q: Can I bring a hairdryer/microwave?
- A: No, we have no power at the campground. And yes we have been asked this before
- For more questions like this, and actual answers too, see the FAQ
Cost:
- Apart from petrol, this trip is free for all club members. Petrol costs will be split per car, expect approx. $10 per person each way.
- There are no gear hire fees as this is a club event
Safety and COVID:
- We are all aware that COVID is still a thing. Please do not attend this event if you are unwell or a close contact.
- COVID Vaccination Required, refer to the club’s COVID policy on the website for more info
- If you become unwell during BOREE LOG please let one of the exec members present know, we will have a few rat tests on hand.
Super keen to see everyone there! Get Excited.
