Hello adventurers,

Nic and I (Tad) will be leading a trad climbing trip to Zig Zag (located in Mt Victoria). This is an old school climbing area with a short easy walk in and good routes at all grades.

You must have basic climbing experience to make the most out of this trip. Ideally, you have climbed outdoors a few times or are confident climbing at about grade 18 indoors. We’ll set up routes for you to second or top rope, so you don’t need lead climbing experience necessarily.

This is a predominantly trad climbing area, with some mixed and sport routes. We will teach you all about trad climbing, the type of gear used for protection, how to place gear safely and how to make bomber anchors.

We will meet up at 10:00am on Sunday morning at the parking area at the end of Innes Rd in Mt Victoria. If you are travelling by public transport, we can arrange to pick you up from the train station.

Please include in the comments: your climbing experience, whether you are able to drive and what climbing gear you already own. Any gear that you require must be collected independently from the gear cupboard at UNSW on the regular gear night.

  • Gear: harness, helmet, climbing shoes, ATC + carabiner (if you have your own make sure you bring it!!!), climbing tape or crack gloves to protect your hands.
  • What to bring: sunscreen, 2L water (minimum!), food for the day, sporty clothes, a warm jacket, a day backpack to fit all your stuff inside, camera, smiles, etc.
  • Meeting point: 10:00am at the parking area at the end of Innes Rd, Mount Victoria.

Please be aware that as the weather is unpredictable, trip leaders may need to alter trips accordingly. If you have any questions, feel free to message me on FB (Tad Karapetian).

See you there,

Tad and Nic
