This weekend let’s get gravity to do the work! Abseiling trip to Malaita Point! Matt and I (Maria) will be running a multi-pitch abseiling trip (this means several abseils on a row, going down 150 m approx) this Sunday to Malaita Point in the Blue Mountains. All the details can be found here: https://ozultimate.com/canyoning/abseiling/notes/malaita_point.htm
If you want to come you must:
- Know how to abseil and how to use an autoblock (prusik) while abseiling (we can do a refresher, but you need to have done it before).
- Be fit for the walk back up!
We will leave UNSW on Sunday morning and be back in the evening. For the trip you will need:
- A helmet.
- A harness with a belay loop with 2 tie-in-points.
- A locking carabiner attached to a belay device.
- Another locking carabiner attached to a safety sling.
- And a third locking carabiner attached to a prusik cord (can borrow everything from the gear cupboard).
- A small comfortable backpack with water, food, a raincoat, a jacket, a head-torch (compulsory), sunscreen, personal medicines if needed, a phone full of battery.
- For the clothes, comfortable enclosed shoes and hiking clothes are fine. We won’t get wet (unless it rains, which it may).
Write down in the comments what’s your abseiling experience, whether you have a car with spots and what’s your favorite outdoors snack (and bring it!). See you there!
