Hey All,
This Sunday (8/11) Declan and I will be running a beginner bushwalk from the basin to mackerel beach in the gorgeous Kuring-Gai Chase National Park at the northern tip of Sydney. This walk has a little bit of everything with amazing views of the water (see below), some aboriginal rock paintings, and an amazing swimming location at the end.
We will start by catching the palm beach ferry to the basin, we will then do the walk along the basin and mackerel tracks having our lunch on the way. Then we will finish the hike at mackerel beach where you will either be able to go for a swim and catch the ferry back to palm beach.
Getting there
We will be meeting at the Palm Beach Wharf at 9:45am to catch the 10:00am Ferry to the basin, If you miss this ferry the next is not for an hour, so do not be late. The ferry is a private route and as a result does not accept opal cards so you will need to pay with cash or card instead. There is no other way to get the the start of the walk at the basin other than by ferry. In your comment, answer the following question; what is your favourite snack to bring on a hike?
To get to palm beach wharf you can either drive (leave extra time to find parking) or catch public transport, (B1 and then 199 from the city). If you want to carpool I will set up a group chat beforehand.
What to Bring
- Backpack to hold your belongings
- Sun protection: Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen
- Sturdy, enclosed shoes – definitely not a hike for thongs.
- At least 2L of water
- Lunch
- Rain jacket (check the weather)
- Any personal medication you may need
- Swimwear and a towel (if you are planning on swimming)
You will be turned back if you do not have appropriate supplies 🙂
