Hola Bandolas!
Damon and I will be running a grand ‘ol trip down Bell Creek Canyon – it is considered to be one of the finest canyons in the Blue mountains. It is also quite a long canyon, so while there aren’t any abseils, coming along will require some serious fitness. We’ll aim to start early, at around 8am, and we’ll either car shuffle, or walk from camp, depending on how many drivers are available. We’ll get back late, but hopefully before dark.
What you will need:
1. A willing spirit – you need to be happy with a few hours of trudging through the cold and wet (but spectacularly beautiful canyon)
2. Food, Water, Chocolate, Sugar supplies. Keep your spirits high!
3. Sunscreen. We’ll be in the canyon most of the time but still – skin cancers sucks donkeys testicles
4. A pack to carry your gear in.
5. A wetsuit – there is potential to borrow one, but I strongly recommend sorting one out for yourself, as there are always limited numbers.
6. A dry bag. Go to Anaconda and pick one up if you don’t have one. They are super useful.
There is also the option of taking a lilo – my personal view is that swimming is just as fast, and you don’t have to faff about with portage.
Don’t sign up if you
a) Aren’t part of the boree log trip
b) Aren’t happy with the idea of a hard long but awesome day out
c) Don’t like the prospect of someone singing sea shanties most of the way along.
Cheerio,
Sam.
