Wilderness Area First Aid Course

When Wilderness First Aid Australia (Wilderness First Aid Aust. an RTO)  will be teaching the course Monday 6th – Thursday 9th   February 2023 for UNSWOC members. A night scenario will take place during the course.It will be an intense 4 days but rewarding and equip you with a nationally recognized qualification for your back country adventures.

Where: Outdoor Education Facility in Kangaroo Valley (2hrs south of Sydney)

What kind of accommodation?: Private house/dormitory style shared kitchen, BBQ facilities and toilets. If you wish to take a room and bed over camping please email Brendan.

What to bring: Outdoors clothes, a set of clothes to get dirty (i.e fake blood), camping equipment all meals and food to be self catered.

Transport: Bus leaving from UNSW, else to be car-pooled by private vehicle.

Cost: For trip leaders (and future trip leaders) this will be subsidized (TL will pay a maximum deposit of of $250 for Accommodation (camping) & Training Hire assuming you lead 5 trips in the coming year. This may be reduced depending on funding). Non trip leaders will not received a subsidized place (Please contact Brendan for price) However, TLIT will or those keenly interested in participating in trip leading training 2023 and be reimbursed after 5 trips lead).

Funding thank you: This activity is proudly funded by Arc @ UNSW’s Arc Development Grant program for 2022. Thank you to Arc and UNSW for their generous support. This specalist training costs over $11k so thank you to Arc for funding a Significant portion. UNSWOC will fund the training for active trip leaders as a thank you for their hard work.

Preexisting requirement   Prework is essential (there will be an online handbook sent out). There are not prior first aid qualifications needed to start or sign up for this course.

Qualifications Upon completion you will have from the RTO:

• SISSS00126 Wilderness First Aid
• HLTAID011    Provide first aid
• SISOFLD004  Provide first aid in remote-locations
• SISXEMR002  Coordinate emergency responses

Sign ups: 12 places available (wait list as well) so signups are essential. Please comment below. Priority will be given to TLIT and Trip leaders without WAFA or expiring. Those previously on the cancelled December course will have first serve.
