To make the most of the spring heat we’ve been having, Angela and I (Mali) have decided to run a canyon in place of a boulder trip this coming Saturday.

The plan is to run down Upper Bowens South Canyon with a particular focus on practicing anchor rigging and other canyon practices. With this in mind, we’re limiting to this trip to people who have some canyoning experience and are looking to learn self-sufficiency in the sport.

The canyon itself is a beauty, but also moderately long, so this might be a long day – perhaps 7-10hrs in the canyon.
You can check out more of the canyon’s details here: https://ozultimate.com/canyoning/track_notes/bowens_creek_south.htm

You will need:

  • To be keen and ready for a longish day
  • A headtorch
  • A dry bag
  • A backpack to fit all your gear and can get wet
  • Wetsuit (preferably 5mm)
  • Rain jacket
  • Thermals
  • Wool socks
  • Shoes with grip
  • Helmet
  • Harness
  • Descender (preferably an 8 style)
  • Personal safety
  • Prusik
  • Locking Carabiners (4-5)
  • An emergency blanket (can be bought from the gear cupboard – $5)
  • Food and water

If you’re keen to join, let us know which canyons you’ve done before and what you’re keen to practice!
