Alright UNSWOC crew, Leo and I (Hammy) have absolutely no idea how to cook over a campfireโbut weโre doing it anyway. Join us this 22-23 Feb at Burralow Creek Campground for a high-stakes, high-flame culinary experiment where success is optional, but fun is guaranteed.
Whatโs the Plan?
Weโre attempting two fancy mealsโdinner and breakfast. Will it be a Michelin-star masterpiece or a charred disaster? Who knows! But it will be an adventure.
๐ฅ Bonus points for wearing something fancy while cooking. (A chefโs hat, a tuxedo, medieval armorโflex your style.)
๐จโ๐ณ Have experience? Awesome. No experience? Even better. This is all about experimenting, laughing at our mistakes, and seeing what we can create with fire and pure determination.
โ ๏ธ There are no rulesโjust have fun, cook, and embrace the chaos.
Important Note
๐จ Trip leaders are NOT providing food. You are responsible for bringing and cooking all your own meals and snacks. Make sure you come prepared! ๐จ
Timeline
โฐ Saturday 10 AM โ arrive and set up camp.
๐ฅพ Midday โ Join us for a hike if youโre keen!
๐ฒ Afternoon โ Free time: Prep for dinner, play games, or just relax and enjoy the surroundings.
๐ฅ Evening โ The ultimate campfire feast!
๐ Saturday Night โ More games, stargazing, and spooky campfire stories. (Bring your best ghost tales!)
๐ฅ Sunday Morning โ Fancy breakfast before packing up and heading home.
What to Bring
- Water โ At least 3L, but more is better! (We need to bring all our own drinking and cooking water.)
- Torch (headlamp ideal!) So you can actually see what you’re doing when it gets dark.
- Toilet paper โ There are toilets, but bringing a little extra is a good idea.
- Whatever cooking equipment you need (fire-safe pots, pans, utensilsโNonstick cookware is not ideal over the fire)
- Your most ambitious campfire meal ingredients
- Fancy dinnerware (because why not?)
- Warm clothes (it gets chilly at night)
- Camp chair (for dining like royalty)
- A quick & easy backup meals and snacksย (just in case)
- Any fun games, instruments, or dramatic toasts for extra flair
Gear Available for Rental
If you donโt have the following items, you need to organize the gear rental via Booqable on the club website and pick it up yourself from the gear cupboard [usually opens Thursdays 5pm]
- Tent*
- Sleeping bag*
- Sleeping mat/pad*
- Cooking pot*
- Gas stove*
Easy(ish) Fancy Campfire Dinners
If you need inspiration, here are some meals that are impressive yet doable over a fire:
๐ฅ Steak & Garlic Butter Veggies โ Because nothing says fancy like a perfectly seared steak.
๐ฅ Campfire Paella โ Rice, seafood (or chicken), saffron, and a whole lot of flex.
๐ฅ Stuffed Capsicums โ Roast them over the fire with a filling of rice, herbs, and cheese.
๐ฅ Charred Lamb Chops with Rosemary & Honey Glaze โ Fancy enough for a five-star restaurant, but cooked in the wild.
๐ฅ Smoky Tomato & Basil Pasta โ Because even a simple pasta dish can be gourmet with the right ingredients.
So, whatโs on your campfire menu? Comment below with what you plan to cook (or what youโd love to eat) and Facebook Messenger contact. Letโs turn this trial by fire into the most chaotically elegant campout ever. ๐ฝ๏ธโจ
Once you have been approved for the trip, weโll make a Messenger chat to sort out any gear you may need, carpooling, and discuss more details and timings. ๐
Bon appรฉtit, brave souls!
