Hope (15) @ Piddo

The lovely Nic DC and I (Xab) will be leading a beginner-friendly climbing trip to the Blue Mountains (likely Mt. Piddington) this SATURDAY, 27 May. Mt. Piddington is a classic crag for a wonderful introduction to Trad Climbing. It also gets sun (very important) for the most part of the day.

You’ll get more if you have some climbing experience (e.g. lead climbing and lead belaying) so you can focus on getting more trad-specific skills. However, no climbing experience is required as we’ll set up climbs for you to second or top rope.

Please bring:

  • Gear:
    • harness*
    • helmet*
    • climbing shoes*
    • ATC + locking carabiner*
    • climbing tape or crack gloves to protect your hands (not essential).
    • other trad climbing gear you may have (e.g. nuts, cams, retro gear)
  • What to bring:
    • sunscreen, sun protection
    • 2L water (minimum!)
    • food for the day,
    • sporty clothes, warm(!) layers (we are expecting some frost)
    • backpack to fit all your stuff inside + room for more gear
    • comfortable shoes to hike in and out
  • Meeting point:
    • To be discussed when we form the FB chat

*Can be borrowed from the gear shed. Please check the UNSWOC FB page for weekly gear night.

In the comments box, please tell us about your previous climbing experience (if applicable, trad/sport lead climb, lead belay), whether you will be driving your own car (and how many total seats), and what is your favorite hot drink to be considered for this trip 🙂. Make sure to include your FB profile name.

Please be aware that as the weather is unpredictable, trip leaders may need to alter trips accordingly. Any questions, shoot me or Nic a FB message or put your question in the comments box.
