Tiger snake canyon – beginners trip!

Hey UNSWOCies, time to get low!

Maria and me are leading a trip on sunday through Tigersnake canyon! This is going to be a super awesome trip! Tigersnake has a deep, dark and spectacular constriction and a couple of abseils.

This is a whole day adventure so you need to be fit! It’s alright if you have not abseiled before, we can show you the ropes. Please fill out the form when you sign up and comment with your experience (if you don’t have rope skills, just comment what other outdoor activities you have done) and your favorite outdoors snack (preferably also bring it to the canyon 😀 )!

This is a dry canyon so we don’t expect to get too wet (aka wet feet, but probably no swims), but it will still be chilly, so bring warm clothing. I usually wear thermals below a pair of old shorts and shirt and a rain jacket on top.

What you need:

• harness*
• helmet*
• safety + biner*
• atc + biner*
• backpack that can get wet(*)
• headtorch (if you dont have a head torch, bring at least some kind of torch – it gets dark early these days!)
• drybag (this is important for spare clothes and your food! I strongly recommend to buy one, e.g. at anaconda https://www.anacondastores.com/camping-hiking/packs-bags/dry-bags-storage/sea-to-summit-dry-sack/p/BP90028599001, these come in handy on almost any outdoor trip).
• runners that may get trashed
• thermals and woolen or synthetic socks (don’t wear ANY cotton, you will be miserably cold!)
• spare set of thermals to carry in your drybag (for emergencies)
• rain jacket
• lunch and snacks!
• at least 2l of water
• dry clothes and shoes for the car ride back
• adventure spirit and heaps of good mood!

*you can get this from the club on gear night (check the fb page, most likely thursday night)

We will leave Sydney very early (6-7am!) and we really need some drivers so please let me know if you have a car!
