**UPDATE: ROUTE CHANGE**
**Rodriguez Pass is officially closed according to NPWS and the hike will be modified accordingly – we will need to take the horse track out and back to Greaves creek (starting and finishing at Evan’s Lookout) or take the Pilcher point track into or out of the Grand Canyon to start/end at Evan’s lookout/Pilchers point if a car shuffle is possible**
Howdy friends,
For those among us interested in bipedal activities, feel free to join me and come walkabout around Blackheath. On this day we will be diverting from my usual route to the pub.
Depending on energy levels, weather and how long it takes us to leave the campsite, we will moderate the route accordingly.
Plan A is beautiful and a little off the beaten track – but high commitment and energy. Plan B is to be tired and leave the campsite late and have a more chill but equally stunning, hangover-curing day.
PLAN A:
We would head from Pilcher point down to a swimming hole and back. We would take the old Pilcher point track into the Grand Canyon and then onto Rodriguez pass to greaves creek for a cheeky dip. We would then head back along horse track to the Grand Canyon trail; thereby successfully completing a return loop having sustained 0 injuries.
This would be a big day: somewhere between 10-13km with some scrambling. This will require some previous bushwalking experience and high fitness. The track is occasionally steep and overgrown / poorly maintained so you will need to be comfortable in the Australian bush. Since this is a big day we will need to leave the campsite quite early on Sunday (only very mild hangovers would be permitted).
Depending on numbers and car availability, we will ideally organise a car shuffle between Evan’s lookout and Pilcher point. Preference will therefore be given to participants with cars.
PLAN B:
We would either head down to greaves creek for a swim by an alternate route from Evan’s lookout. This route follows the Grand Canyon track and then the horse track. We would potentially return via Rodriguez pass or back the way we came.
I will check in with everyone on Sunday morning and put it to a democratic vote, assuming that timing and weather is not the deciding factor.
Either way, there will be plenty of opportunities for a swim and we will be meandering through the lush forest of the Grand Canyon and past a bunch of waterfalls.
TO BRING:
-backpack
-swimmers
-towel
-plenty of water (at least 3L)
-hat
-sunscreen
-comfortable walking clothes: if it is warm make sure to wear clothing that you will not overheat in, although long pants are ideal if we are bushbashing
-jacket (a rain jacket or light jacket in the case it is windy)
-comfortable walking shoes
-snacks and lunch
-any medications you require
-hat
***You need to be approved for the main Boree Log event to attend these trips. Please sign up for only ONE trip per day. If you get rejected you can then sign up for another trip, this just makes it easier for volunteer trip leaders. Please be aware that as the weather is unpredictable, trip leaders may need to alter trips accordingly***
🚨 Please answer the following questions if you would like to be accepted on this trip:
1. Do you have any pre-existing injuries or medical conditions that might affect your ability to go hiking, or that I should be aware of?
2. What previous hiking or bushwalking experience do you have and how would you describe your fitness level?
3. Aisle or window seat on a plane (and why?)
if you do not answer the above questions, you will not be accepted onto this trip
Despite advice to the contrary by beloved American girl group TLC, it is in fact encouraged to go chasing waterfalls. So come along if you’re keen for good chats, beautiful scenery, secluded swimming spots and sour patch kids (I will be providing these in abundance).
Cheers,
Emily
