[Copied mostly from Sid’s trip running the day before on Saturday] [This is the SUNDAY trip]

Aah, Claustral. The gem of Blueys canyons.
3 incredible waterfall abseils into one of the deepest, darkest, longest, greenest slots in the Blue Mountains.
Join us on the Sunday of Boree Log trip exploring this amazing environment, with a side-trip up Thunder Gorge and a caving-like scramble to a glow worm cave! We’ll start early on Sunday morning, aiming to leave the campsite by 0800.

You MUST have had previous abseiling experience, be physically fit and prepared for a long day – up to 11hrs. The hike out is steep and fairly long. You must also be approved for Boree Log to attend.

GEAR: (* = can borrow from UNSWOC)
Please note that this is a long day, with very few bailout options. Double, triple check you have all of the non-asterisk’d items on this list BEFORE leaving Sydney. Items borrowed from the club will be organised on Saturday morning.

  • Canyoning gear:
    – Harness*
    – Helmet*
    – 3x locking carabiner*

    – 1x 120cm safety sling*

    – Boardshorts to wear on top of wetsuit

  • Food:
    – 1.5L Water in bottles (FULL when we leave camp)
    – Substantial lunch (pack it in a waterproof container, and make sure it’s vaguely crush-proof)
    – Snacks

  • Miscellaneous:
    – Any personal medicine (asthma puffer, Epipen etc)
    – A pair of thongs/flipflops to leave in the car (since your shoes will get wet)
    – Phone or camera for photos (optional, and only if you’re prepared for it to get wet if your drybag leaks! Bring a ziploc bag or two to protect it)

If you have any questions, message me (Stephen Roche) or Henry Burt on facebook. Write down YOUR ABSEILING/OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE in the comment when signing up and whether you have A CAR 🙂  We will make sure everyone has a SPOT IN A CAR TO GET BACK TO SYDNEY. See you there!
