Ally, Ping and I (Glenn) are leading a beginner canyoning trip to Whungee Wheengee on Sunday for Borree Log!! Check here for more details. You must be approved for Borree Log to join 🙂
There’s no better way to cure a hangover on Sunday morning than abseiling, jumping and scrambling through a canyon all while in refreshingly cold water. This is a super fun canyon but there is a big hike in and another uphill hike out so it is very important that you have a reasonable level of fitness and being able to swim is a MUST. This is also a colder than usual canyon so bring thermals. If you don’t know how to abseil we can teach you on the day.
GEAR: (* = can borrow from UNSWOC)
Items borrowed from the club will be organised on Sunday morning. Please make sure you don’t forget anything that you have to bring from Sydney!
- Canyoning gear:
– Harness*
– Helmet*
– 3x locking carabiner*
– 1x ATC*
– 1x 120cm safety sling*
– Prusik cord*
– Drybag* (better if you bring your own – can buy a kind of okay one for cheap from kmart)
– Headtorch (Ideally waterproof/resistant, very important if we finish late)
– Backpack that can fit ALL your gear in and can get wet. - Clothing:
– Thermals to wear under your wetsuit (very important in this canyon)
– Wetsuit*
– Enclosed shoes with good grip
– Wool socks to keep your tootsies warm
– Boardshorts to wear on top of wetsuit
– Warm, lightweight clothes to put in your dry bag. (100% mandatory. This is in case we get stuck, and you need to change into something warm) - Food:
– 1.5L Water in bottles (FULL when we leave camp)
– Substantial lunch
– Snacks
– Your favourite food to share! - Miscellaneous:
– Any personal medicine (asthma puffer, Epipen etc)
– A pair of thongs/flipflops to leave in the car (since your shoes will get wet)
– Phone or camera for photos (optional, and only if you’re prepared for it to get wet if your drybag leaks! However everyone on the trip will love you if you take photos)
If you have any questions feel free to message me, Ally or Ping on Facebook.
Let us know your canyoning/abseiling experience and whether you have a car in your comment.
