Hey everyone!
Pat and I (Amelia) will be leading a beginner sport climbing trip to Dam Cliffs in the Blue Mountains this Sunday (17/9/23). No previous climbing experience is required as we can teach you on the day. Dam Cliffs is a great place to learn with lots of easy to intermediate grades (also a great place to learn lead climbing) and we can end the day with a swim and some deep water soloing if you’re keen!
The plan is to meet at Dam Cliffs early on Sunday morning, and climb until late in the afternoon. We will arrange car-pooling so please mention in the sign up comment if you have a car and how many people you can take.
Gear you will need (which can be borrowed from the UNSWOC gear cupboard):
- Harness
- Helmet
- Belay device + locking carabiner (ATC, Gri Gri etc. )
- Safety sling + locking carabiner (optional – if you are interested in learning to clean a route)
- Climbing shoes
- Chalk, if you have it (can’t be borrowed from gear cupboard)
Gear cupboard will be open on Thursday 5-6pm (check facebook for reminder post and details). There are no rental fees for club trips but you will need to bring a CASH deposit (around $40 for all this).
You will also need:
- 2L water
- sunscreen
- swimmers and towel if you plan on swimming/deep water soloing
- food and snacks for the day
- warm clothes
We can only take a limited number of people on this trip so get in quick and please include in the comments your experience, if you have a car, and your favourite beach :))
If you have any questions, feel free to message Pat or I on Facebook.
Hope to see you there,
Amelia
