Hey everyone!
This Sunday Jason and I will be running a beginner multipitch sport climbing trip to Shandy at Boar’s Head near Katoomba.
Shandy is a 4 pitch, grade 14, sport climb in the Rhum Dhu area of Narrow Neck crag. We will only be climbing the first 2 pitches, which you can read about on the crag here.
Please note, whilst this is a beginner multipitch trip, it is an intermediate sport climbing trip and although you do not need multipitch experience, you will need to be competent in some sport climbing skills. Make sure to read all the information on this page and answer all questions when signing up.ย
To come on this trip you need to be proficient in the following skills:
- Basic abseiling
- Lead belaying
- Cleaning routes and anchors
You will need the following gear:
- *Climbing harness
- *Climbing helmet
- *Belay device + locking carabiner (your belay device must be suitable for a top belay eg. Gri-Gri, *ATC Guide. IF YOU BRING AN ATC IT MUST HAVE GUIDE MODE AND YOU WILL NEED AN ADDITIONAL CARABINER)
- *Safety sling + 2 locking carabiners
- *Climbing shoes (COMFORTABLE โ i.e. not your aggressive indoor bouldering shoes, youโll be standing in them all day)
- Water, lunch, and snacks
- Headtorch
- A small backpack (assume youโll need to climb with all your belongings, including your approach shoes)
- Wind breaker or jumper
- Sunscreen
Items marked with an asterisk (*) can be borrowed from the gear cupboard.
If you wish to come on this trip, let us know: your experience with climbing, multipitch, and the required skills listed above; what kind of belay device you will be bringing; if you have a car, how many spots you have, and where you will be leaving from; your Facebook profile; and your least favourite fruit.
Due to the nature of this trip, we will only be able to take 4 participants.
Bookings will open at 6pm tonightย to give everyone a chance to see this post.
Ensure you have read all information and meet all requirements before signing up to the trip.
As this is a beginner multipitch trip, preference may be given to those with less multipitch experience. A more advanced multipitch trip will be running later in the term.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Jason or myself.
