Hey hey,

Blair and I (Liam) both haven’t been through Claustral canyon in too long, so it’s time for another visit!!

Claustral is one of the more impressive canyons in the Blue Mountains so if you haven’t tried it then come along. It will be a very big day, we’ll be walking, scrambling and canyoning for 12 hours, so a good level of fitness is required. Having done a canyon before and familiarity with abseiling is also needed. At the moment it looks like it will be pretty cold in the mountains this weekend, so even colder inside the canyon.

You’ll need all of the gear described below – the technical stuff can be borrowed from the club.

Contact me (Liam Hayes) or Blair Harkness on facebook (look under members of UNSW Outdoor Club fb page) if you have any questions.

Required gear:

  • helmet
  • harness and safety sling
  • abeiling device (figure 8, ATC, other) and biner
  • Wetsuit
  • double layers of thermals & beanie (no cotton!)
  • socks (thick wool ones are best)
  • headtorch
  • hiking clothes (no jeans or any other cotton clothing)
  • runners or volleys
  • 2L water bottle
  • lunch and lots of chocolate
