SATURDAY BOREE LOG – Hiking Mount Banks Summit Loop

Leo, Sarry and I (Lloyd) will be leading a beginner/intermediate hiking trip to Mount Banks Summit.

It’s a stunning 15 km hike that has spectacular panoramic views of the Grose Valley and tracks across ridge lines and plateaus, which would take approximately 5-6 hours to complete (find all the details here: https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/things-to-do/walking-tracks/pierces-pass-to-blue-gum-forest-walking-track). Also, Leo will be providing commentary along the hike, if you are interested to learn about Australian plants and native ecology!

After camp roll call Saturday morning, the plan is to drive from the campground where we are camping (Cathedral Reserve at Mount Wilson) to the start of the hike (20 min drive), spend an awesome day out and head back to the campground in the evening. You will need:

  • For clothing: Comfortable hiking shoes and sport clothes. It can get quite hot (hat), quite chilly (fleece) or quite wet (raincoat), so be prepared!
  • For eating: 2-3 litres of water, lunch and snacks. Don’t underestimate the amount of water, there is no refill!
  • Other gear: a headtorch (compulsory), sunscreen, any personal medication you might normally carry with you (asthma puffer, etc), a phone full of battery, a backpack to fit everything.

If you have any questions, look for Lloyd Siharath or Leo Lovesy on the UNSWOC Facebook page and send us a message! Trip sign-up requests will be approved by Saturday 9th March.

How do I come along?

In the comments, please let us know what hikes you’ve done, why you’re keen for this hike, what your favourite trail snack is, and whether you have A CAR 🙂. See you there!

You need to be approved for the main Boree Log event to attend these trips. Please sign up for only ONE trip per day. If you get rejected you can then sign up for another trip, this just makes it easier for volunteer trip leaders. Please be aware that as the weather is unpredictable, trip leaders may need to alter trips accordingly.
