Hi all!

Mali and I (Katie) are running a trip on Saturday of Boree Log to kayak Bendeela campsite to (hopefully) Tallowa dam. This is a beginner kayaking trip but you will need to be fit as there will be around 6 hours and over 10km of paddling!

Participants need to be competent swimmers, good at handling cold water, and prepared (mentally) for a long day and some sore arms. We will be in white water kayaks and they move slow.

  • Kayaking gear provided at Boree Log event (If you have personal gear it is helpful to bring this along):
    • Helmet
    • White water kayak + spray skirt (and maybe a raft if we can get fixed)
    • Life jacket
    • Paddle
  • Kayaking gear not provided:
    • Wetsuit/thermal to keep warm (the club has some but these are mostly to canyon)
    • Emergency blanket (You must carry one on every club canyoning trip. You must buy one from the gear cupboard for $5 cash or most outdoor stores)
    • Dry bags that can fit ALL your gear inside and can fit inside the kayak (the club only has a couple of drybags so we can’t guarantee any for you
  • Clothing:
    • Hat, sunglasses & sunscreen
    • Wool socks
    • Thermals to wear under your life jacket
    • A windbreaker for if it gets cold
    • NO COTTON!
  • Food:
    • 1.5L of water in bottles.
    • Substantial lunch (pack it in a waterproof container, and make sure it’s vaguely crush-proof)
    • Snacks (chocolate or something nice to share!)
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Any personal medicine (asthma puffer, Epipen etc)
    • A pair of thongs/flipflops (jandals if you’re a kiwi like me) to leave in the car
    • Phone or camera for photos (optional, and only if you’re prepared for it to get wet if your drybag leaks! Bring a ziploc bag or two to protect it)

If you have any questions give myself or Mali a message on Facebook.

Also let us know in comments:

  1. If you have a car and available seats for the car shuffle
  2. Your kayaking and/or cold water swimming experience.
  3. Also please comment with your favourite Australian animal
  4. If you’ve done an early vote for the Referendum (only applicable to Australian Citizens)

Thanks Alfie for the event template!
