[FULL] Saturday BL – Beginner canyon – Macquarie Pass

Hello!

Juri and I (Georgie) will be running a trip down Macquarie Pass Canyon on the Saturday of Boree Log. Amelia will be our TLIT.

Macquarie Pass is a warm(ish) wide open, pretty canyon with some mega abseils! You can find out more about it here.

You will need to be comfortable with heights and abseiling, able to swim in cold water, scramble over slippery and wet rocks, and manage a steep walk in and out.

What to bring:

• Harness *
• Helmet *
• Figure 8 Device/descender of choice (no ATC or Pitton) *
• 2 locking biners *
• Safety (120 sling is acceptable)*
• Wetsuit *
• Drybag (must be large enough to fit everything in that you will want to keep dry)*
• Thermal top and bottoms, jumper & beanie (e.g. enough clothing to keep warm in a canyon overnight in an emergency)
• Thick socks
• Raincoat that is ok to get wet
• Emergency blanket (1 blanket for each person; can be purchased from most pharmacies for $10)
• Sunscreen
• First aid kit (if you have one)
• Lunch (pack it in a waterproof container, and make sure it’s vaguely crush-proof)
• Snacks (ideally things that can be consumed on the go)
• 2L of water minimum
• Dry & sun-safe clothes (to hike out of the canyon in)
• Backpack > 25L (will get wet)
• Enclosed shoes for the walking and in the canyon
• Headtorch + spare batteries
• Medications/epipens if you need them!
• Boardshorts to wear on top of wetsuit (compulsory to protect the club wetsuits)
• Optional: swimmers to put under your wetsuit prussik (if you already know how to use it)
• DO NOT BRING COTTON CLOTHING.
