Hey everyone,

This will be my 10th Boree Log. To celebrate I’m going to use the excuse to pass on all that stressfull ropes and climbing and abseiling stuff, and go for a “relaxing” bushwalk to an area of the mountains I haven’t visited before.

The plan for the day is to walk up Little Capertree Creek to the Wolgan-Capertee divide, and have a look around. This area is in Gardens of Stone National Park and true to the name there are many spectacular rock pinnacles caves and pagodas, and great views over the Capertee valley. As a favourite of many old crusty bushwalkers, it’s a trip for connoisseurs.

This trip should be about a round trip, with about on road or track, and a few kms of off-track walking and scrambling to the crest of the divide. Be prepared for some easy rock climbing and unpleasant bush bashing – a good comparison might be the climb of Mt Solitary near Katoomba, but without a well-worn track. Disclaimer – I haven’t done this walk before so I’m just guessing!

You should come prepared with good hiking boots or shoes and wollen socks, small backpack, a large water bottle or two, and of course a large tasty lunch (hard drinks optional). I prefer thin hiking pants and long sleeved shirts for bushwalking, as I don’t like scratched arms and legs, but many walk in shorts. Preferably not jeans though!
