Hey all,
Are you super stoked for Boree log and want to jam in an extra canyon on Friday? Then boy oh boy do Cornelius and I have trip for you!
With high demand for beginner canyons, we’ll be running a short trip through empress canyon on the Friday before Boree log.
The canyon should take us 3-4 hours and will be a nice way to break up the drive to Boree log.
Please feel free to sign up if you haven’t canyoned before! This is a great first canyon and involves one awesome 30m abseil at the end.
You will need to visit the gear cupboard on a Thursday to pick up any gear that you wish to borrow. See below for a list of things you need to bring. If you don’t have all the pieces, we may ask you to wait in the carpark/cafe.
Available to borrow from the Club:
- Canyoning harness
- Helmet
- Wetsuit (bring your own if you have one, no guarantees that the club ones will fit you)
- 2x Locking carabiners
- 1x Figure 8 descender
- 1x Safety sling
- Drybag
Other gear you must bring:
- Backpack that can fit ALL your gear and that can get wet (30L+)
- Emergency blanket – (can buy from Gear Cupboard for $5 or from chemists, shops, etc)
- Enclosed shoes with good grip, suitable for water and bushwalking
- Wool or neoprene or other thick socks
- Boardshorts to wear on top of wetsuit (compulsory to protect the club wetsuits)
- Thermals and raincoat
- Swimmers for under wetsuit
- NO COTTON! (this includes socks, shirts, pants, etc)
- 2L of water
- Lunch
- Snacks to share!
- Medication (asthma puffer, Epipen etc)
- Headtorch + spare batteries
- Dry clothes and a towel for the drive back to camp
Ideally all participants of this trip will be also attending Boree log, as we won’t be going back to Sydney afterwards. Let me know in the comments if you have a car, your canyoning/abseiling experience and your favorite national park (so I know you’ve read this far).
