Overnight Hike: The Castle, Budawangs

Hey all!

Next weekend Liam and i want to go on a proper adventure. Day 1 will be a 10km hike to Cooyoyo Creek, where will we camp at the base of the Castle. On day 2, we will wake up early, make the exposed scramble to the top of the Castle, then retrace our steps back to the cars. The scramble up to the top is somewhat challenging and you’ll need solid footing and a good head for heights. If you feel too intimidated when we get there, you are welcome to sleep in, chill out and mind the bags while the keen beans climb the castle.

We will leave at 7am on Saturday morning, and drive ~3.5 hours to Yadboro, our access point to the walk. Expect to arrive home late on Sunday night. At this point, we need more drivers, so if you have a car and are willing to drive please let us know! PAssengers in your car will split petrol costs.

What you’ll need:

• Hking Pack
• Tent
• Sleeping bag
• Sleeping mat
• Warm clothes: Jacket, pants, thermal layers, hat, gloves
• Rain jacket (forecast dependent)
• You must bring all your food for the two day hike (2x lunch, 1x breakfast, 1xdinner, lots of snacks!)
  • breakfast ideas: porridge/bread product with peanut butter, coffee
  • lunch ideas: wraps with tuna, avocado, cheese, dip (whatever you like)
  • dinner ideas: couscous, lentils, instant rice, or more wraps if you dont have a stove
  • snacks: trail mix, chocolate, muesli bars, cookies
  • hiking stove (if you have it/want it)
• Water: there should be water in a creek at the campsite so 2L water for the first day should be enough. Bring water purification tablets or be ready to boil water from the creek if you choose to drink it
• headtorch or flashlight
• Good hiking shoes

NOTE: please don’t carry much else! If your pack is over about 12kg you will find walking up hills very strenuous! if you can organise to share a tent with somebody else, please do! you will thank me later.
