ANDREW BARNETT

Pagoda Rock Formation, Gardens of Stone National Park

Do you want to improve your navigation? Do you like running?  Do you like problem solving challenges? If you answered yes to any of these questions then orienteering is for you!

For those who don’t know, Orienteering is an adventure sport where you use nothing but a map and a compass to navigate your way around a course (made up of a series of checkpoints) as fast as you can. If you want to find out more about it read the wikipedia page, or ask me (I can talk about it for hours… just ask anyone).

The club has just bought a new suite of compasses and so on Sunday of Boree log I am running an orienteering training event in the Gardens of Stone National Park. I will be preparing exercises for a range of levels, so beginners to seasoned orienteers are all welcome.

The day will consist of some basic skills exercises and pairs training courses in the morning before we take a break for lunch. After lunch I will go and place checkpoints so we can run some races (probably team relays, because they are exciting)!

What to bring:

  • Running shoes (Trail runners if you have them, joggers will also be fine but you will be going off tracks)
  • Sports clothes (Whatever is comfortable for moving fast through the bush)
  • Water! (It could be a hot day so bring atleast 3L of water)
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Lunch and snacks
  • Compass if you have one (and send me a message to let me know, because then I might be able to open up more spaces).

If you have a car also let me know because then I can open up more spaces as well 🙂

Any questions or inquiries email me at andrew.barnett.au@gmail.com or text 0439735393.
