Lawson Waterfall Circuit – Beginner/Intermediate Day Hike

With a little bit of rain forecast for this Saturday, don’t lock yourself indoors – Don your raincoat, come and explore more than five epic waterfalls in the lush Blue Mountains rainforest 🌿 🌧️

Rainy days mean the falls south of Lawson (1.5 hrs by train from Central Station) will be pumping, the trails less crowded, the air cool and refreshing…

So join Rory and I on a 10km+ adventure from Hazelbrook Station to Lawson Station, passing by Junction Falls, Federal Falls, Terrace Falls, Cataract Falls, and more. This is a moderately difficult route, and there will be some slippery stairs, mud, and streams to negotiate, but it is still suitable for beginners who are prepared to push their boundaries a little. Expect everything (including you) to get a little bit damp, and your boots to get muddy. Don’t worry – A post-hike visit to the pub will help you dry out, and the views/experience will absolutely be worth it!

Itinerary/details
Meet at Hazelbrook at 11am, Saturday 28th Feb
Finish walk at Lawson before 5pm
Catch train from Lawson Station back to Sydney (or to your car)

Distance: 9-12km (potential extra distance due to side trails to waterfalls)
Elevation: 300-400m
Difficulty: Easy-medium

Required Gear List – Read this before you sign up!

• Sturdy shoes or boots (waterproof hiking boots are best – No gumboots please)
• Raincoat
• Day pack that can fit everything listed below…
• 2L water
• Snacks (high-energy like museli bars, fruit, nuts, etc.)
• Packed lunch
• Warm jacket
• 1-2 dry bags and zip lock bags
• Hat and sunscreen (just in case)
• Any personal medication

Optional gear

• Rain cover for your pack
• Rain pants (will make you hot and sweaty)
• Leech removal kit 🔫💣
• Camera/electronics – double dry bagged!
