Hey all, this is UNSWOC’s 3rd kayaking pool session for Term 1 2020.

Note: This event may be cancelled or postponed on short notice as we continue to observe the current medical advice and deem whether it is safe for us to run this session.

Likewise, if you are at all feeling unwell please remember there will always be more pool sessions next term to come along to. Keep yourself and others safe and avoid this session.

If you’ve ever wanted to kayak down waterfalls, paddle Australia’s stunning whitewater rivers and come along on the club’s awesome whitewater trips, then these sessions are for you. The last sessions filled up super fast so make sure to sign up quick, and let me know why you’re keen to come along in your comment!

These are beginner training sessions to teach you the fundamentals of rolling a whitewater kayak as well as other basic skills. Rolling is a crucial skill in whitewater rapids to get you upright in the event you flip over while paddling. With these skills you’ll be able to attend the club’s whitewater kayaking trips. Everything from trips to the Olympic facility in Penrith to the Snowy River Extreme Race in the Snowy Mountains.

Details:

  • Tuesday 24th of March
  • Meet at the gear cupboard at 6:20pm (Sam Cracknell Pavilion, ground floor village green side)
  • We will carry the gear over to the pool for a 7pm start in the water
  • Out of the water by 9pm and then carry gear back to the gear cupboard

What to bring:

  • Swimmers
  • Towel
  • $5 cash for subsidised pool entry costs
  • Goggles (optional)

NOTE: YOU MUST BE A COMPETENT SWIMMER TO ATTEND!

If you miss out on signup this time there’s more pool sessions scheduled for next term. If you have any questions feel free to message me (Bennett Frerck).

For the safety of all, attendees must have had:

  • No Coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms
  • No overseas travel in the last 2 weeks
  • No contact with a confirmed case of Coronavirus

Let me know why you’re keen to come along and if you have any prior kayaking experience in the signup comment.
