This saturday I am going to run an Introduction to multipitch climbing. This trip is people who have not done any multipitch climbing, but can lead climb and lead belay. The climb I have selected for this trip is a grade 14, so you don’t need to be a particularly strong climber. I am limiting this trip to 5 people due to practical reasons. We will catch the train up to the mountains on Saturday morning and then walk to climb (about 4km).
The topics I plan to cover are:
- Safety.
- Belay building.
- Communication.
- Rope Management.
- Route Selection and Preparation.
For your personal gear you will need (Can be obtained from the cupboard):
- At least 5 quick draws each.
- A harness with gear loops.
- A long sling each (>1m).
- An ATC Guide each.
- 5 Bolt plates each.
- 4 Locking Carabiners each.
- A Helmet!
- A whistle.
- A head Torch.
- Climbing Shoes.
- Approach shoes.
- Lunch and Water.
- Rain Jacket (even if the weather looks good)
- A rope between two people ( will try to organise this by email today).
- Printed trip notes for the climb ( Part of the learning will be finding the route on your own; the notes can be found here.)
- A small backpack (once you leave the ground, your not going back down for your stuff!).
Please contact me on dpvandermaat@gmail.com once you secured a place on the trip and tell me what gear you own, and what you need to get from the cupboard.
