Hi all!

How strong are your arms from all the climbing? Feel like a slightly different challenge?

Emily and I (Katie) are running a flat water kayaking trip in Berowra Creek. Be prepared to give those arms a good workout, with a 12km return paddle along the beautiful Berowra Creek including with lovely views of Kuring-gai crag, hidden beaches and lush forest. We’ll be following a portion of this route: Berowra waters.

Participants need to be competent swimmers, good at kayaking and handling cold water, and prepared (mentally) for a big day of kayaking (12km+). Due to having to transport kayaks, preference will be given to those with cars and roof racks, and we can increase numbers if people have their own sea kayak and a way to transport. I’m going to add again, be prepared for a long day!

PLEASE comment in the comment section if you have a car and roof racks and what type of kayak you have if you own one.

  • Kayaking gear that will be provided:
    • Kayak (sea kayaks only)
    • Paddles
    • Life jackets
  • Gear not provided:
    • Emergency blanket You can buy one from the gear cupboard for $5 cash or most outdoor stores)
    • Backpack that can fit your gear inside and will fit within the inner compartment of the sea kayak
    • Drybags (we’ll be in a river and you may fall out!)
  • Clothing:
    • Enclosed shoes/sandals
    • Hat, sunglasses & sunscreen
    • Wool socks
    • Thermals
    • Wetsuit if you run cold or are planning on bringing a sit on top kayak
    • Raincoat or windbreaker regardless of weather
    • NO COTTON!
  • Food:
    • 2L of water in bottles.
    • Food for the day
    • Snacks (chocolate or something nice to share!)
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Any personal medicine (asthma puffer, Epipen etc)
    • A pair of thongs/flipflops (jandals if you’re a kiwi like me) for walking around on the beaches (since your shoes will get wet)
    • Phone or camera for photos (optional, and only if you’re prepared for it to get wet if your drybag leaks! Bring a ziploc bag or two to protect it)

If you have any questions give myself or Emily a message on Facebook.

Once again please let us know in the comments:

  1. If you have a car and roofracks
  2. Your kayaking/swimming experience
  3. If you have your own kayak and what type it is
  4. Also please comment with your favourite and/or longest kayak you’ve completed (if you love to suffer like I do)
