Welcome to a new uni term! Let’s start it right by going canyoning! 🙂
Matthew and I (Maria) will be leading an intermediate canyoning trip on Saturday the 16th. We will explore the beautiful Butterbox/Mt Hay canyon (find all the details here: https://ozultimate.com/canyoning/track_notes/mt_hay.htm).
The plan is to drive to the Blue Mountains early in the morning (we will carpool, if you have a car message me and you get preference in the trip!), hike to the entrance of the canyon, put the wetsuits on, and scramble down the river, abseil after abseil, and finally climb out and hike back to the car. It will be an awesome day out and you will need:
- To be fit, know how to swim and know how to abseil. Tick off the 3 of them.
- Canyoning gear: A harness*, a helmet*, a locking carabiner* attached to an ATC*, a second locking carabiner* attached to a safety sling*, and a third locking carabiner* attached to a prusik cord*. Also a wetsuit*, a drybag*, a torch (preferably headtorch), and a backpack that can fit ALL your gear in and that can get wet.
- For clothing: Enclosed shoes with good grip, wollen socks, shortboards to wear on top of the wetsuit (this is compulsory if you borrow the wetsuit from the club, to protect it), warm clothes such as thermals/raincoat that you’ll put in your dry bag (in case we get stuck you need to carry something warm and dry).
- For yumyuming: 2 l of water, food or snacks, chocolate for the trip leaders please.
- Other gear: sunscreen, cash ($5-$10) for petrol, medicines if you need them (asthma puffer, etc), a pair of flipflops to leave in the car (since your shoes will get wet), and a phone full of battery.
If you have any questions message us (Matthew Notarangelo or Maria LC on facebook). See you there!
