The weekend of the 22nd of February we are going to be teaming up with UTSOAC and SURMC to enjoy a weekend of joint fun. For those of you who have been to a Festival of the Canyons trip it will be in a similar vein.
Where will be staying?
We will be camping in Dunphy’s Camping Megalong Valley.
Here’s a google link. But for those who don’t like Google……….get onto Megalong valley Road and keep driving, no turn offs, all the way to the very end of the road and we will be there. Don’t know where Megalong Valley road is, just google it.

Activities:
So what will be there to do on this weekend?
We will running 4 trips each day, 8 in total. Below I have provided a brief description of what the activities are and where they will be run. Each activity will have a club representative (trip leader), these representatives will co-run the trip with the other representatives. Any questions about a specific trip please refer to YOUR clubs rep for the answer, if they cannot answer come talk Jake Griffiths (UTS).
More trips will be posted as we get closer to the weekend including a few canyoning trips.
Saturday:
Rock climbing-Beginners and Intermediates (RS1 a must)
Location: Land of the Giants
https://www.thecrag.com/climbing/australia/blue-mountains/historic-wells
Description:
Land of the Giants is a great little crag located at Bardens lookout. It has grades starting from 14 right up to the mid 20’s. We will be setting up some top ropes for those who cannot lead, but with this in mind I do require everyone to have completed Rock Skills 1. For those who don’t know what’s in Rock Skills 1, essentially everyone must have climb outdoors before, know how to belay, tie themselves in with a figure 8 and general cliff safety. If you have any doubts please contact the trip representative of your club.
Rock-climbing-Trad + Advance(Sport)
Location:Zig Zag
https://www.thecrag.com/climbing/australia/blue-mountains/the-zigzag
Description:
For those who are looking for a little more adventure on the Saturday of the rock kind, a group will be heading to Zig Zag Crag. This is has a variety of interesting climbs and styles from Trad to Sport climbing. I am sure you all understand what is involved in terms of skill to come on this trip but for those who don’t please contact the trip representative of your club. Please note, no top ropes will be set up for this trip.
Hiking
Location:Breakfast Creek and Ironmonger Hill.
Description:
Starting and ending at the campground this hike covers a variety of landscapes. We’ll first head along Breakfast Creek towards the Coxs River and then up and over Ironmonger. We should have excellent views to the north from the top of Ironpot Mountain and we’ll see Aboriginal sharpening grooves. Perhaps also a red belly black snake or two.
It’s an intermediate level hike with approximately 5 hours of walking and covering 13 km (600m ascent). There are a few steep inclines and declines and a little bit of scrambling.
There are a lot of nettles so it’s wise to wear long pants or gaiters.
Sunday:
Rock climbing multi-pitch
Location: Sublime point/James Bond
https://www.thecrag.com/climbing/australia/blue-mountains/main-area
http://www.thecrag.com/climbing/australia/blue-mountains/blackheath-area/area/12013195
Description:
Sweet Dreams are made of these….
On the Sunday we will be running some multi-pitch trips. The first trip will be to sublime point, we may have done Sweet Dreams but there is plenty of choice in terms of multi-pitches at sublime point to choose from. If there is enough interest and also trip representatives will can split the group in two and those who want to can go to James Bond wall which is very close to where we are staying and offers a few shorter multi pitches plus there is some harder single pitches in the area to do once you’ve got up high and pumped. We are asking that you have had experience with multi-pitches before.
What Now?
So what to do now, sign up for this trip if you intend on coming along.
Over the next few day’s all the activities will be posted by each clubs representative of their respective trip. When these are posted they will come with further instructions on what to do once you have signed up. Keep an eye out and join the trips you want to go on. Please sign up to the correct trips from the club.
Also if you wish to only come to one of the days please tell your Clubs rep:
