Hola all,

On the weekend the surfing and sailing societies are having an open weekend down in Jervis bay, camping down at caves beach. This is a pretty beautiful spot, and fairly close to Nowra which has both great climbing, and a great brewery.

Now, you could drive down to Jervis bay… but with that attitude your arse will forever remain choss. Instead, get your bike (buy one if you don’t have one) and ride down. Of course riding all the way is perhaps a bit to much to ask, so instead we will be starting from Berry and heading out to the Caves beach campground, 53km all in all.

We’ll leave on the Friday afternoon. I finish at 3pm, and we’ll head to the train station immediately afterwards. We’ll get dinner at Berry, fuelling up for the ride out. On sunday we’ll head back.

What you will need:
A bike – if you have a crappy one, bring it to the bike club and we’ll whip it into shape.
A rack – NOT A TRAD RACK – this goes on the back of your bike. For carrying gear. If you don’t have a rack or panniers, you might be able to dump gear in someones car and have them drive it down.
Panniers – to put on your rack and carry your gear
Spare tubes, in case you get a puncture.

Tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat. Usual camping stuff.

Food: Eating is important.
Water: Drinking is important.
You’ll need enough for 2 days, because we probably won’t head back to town before then.

Swimmers: It’s a beach.
A towel: Read Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Lights: To illuminate your way in the darkness of the Australian bush.

Sunscreen: There’s no ozone here.

I am planning to climb at Nowra on the Sunday at least, so if you are planning to join in – bring your climbing gear.

Cheerio!

Sam
