Beginner-Intermediate Saturday Canyon
Want to do a sick canyon with some sweet abseils, maybe a jump, and all around beautiful nature-y stuff? Then Geronimo Canyon is for you!
While the canyon isn’t particularly tricky, you still gotta be fit for a steep hike out, not too scared of heights, and cool with cold water – let me know your relevant outdoors experience via Facebook comment, private message, or in the section where you sign up on the webpage.
What you’ll need:
Lunch
- A wetsuit**
- A harness
- A descender (ATC, figure-8) and locking biner
- A safety sling and locking biner
- A helmet (the club has these, but a bicycle helmet works fine anyway)**
- Water (I recommend at least 1.5L)
- A drybag (these cost about $12, from Kathmandu/ Anaconda/ Macpac / the internet), I’d recommend 15L – 20L if you’re interested in getting into canyoning, but any size is fine. It’s just to keep your clothes and lunch dry, and maybe camera
- A backpack, around 25L in capacity
- Well gripping enclosed shoes (I’m looking at you people thinking about wearing thongs), e.g. old running shoes or sneakers. Note: these will get dirty and damaged
- Wool or synthetic socks (your feet will get cold in cotton socks)
- Optional thermals, wool or synthetic to wear under your wetsuit, if you’re the kind of person who gets cold easily
- Shirt and shorts/leggings to walk into the canyon
- Maybe a camera
You can borrow items with a ** from the club, but as always, limited availability with Boree Log, so bringing your own is always a safe bet!
See ya Sunday!
