This is an advanced-level trip.

Exploratory canyoning is where you find something on a map which looks like a canyon then go and explore it. There are no descriptions or track notes to work off, and very few (if any) people visit the area each year. Therefore, this trip will include activities such as:

  • bushbashing (and lots of it)
  • building, inspecting and testing abseil anchors
  • abseiling and prussiking

This Sunday I’m planning to explore some areas on Newnes Plateau or in the Wollangambe Wilderness (to be decided). Some of the canyons will be narrow and some will involve abseiling. There will probably be ankle-deep water.

All the details will be sorted out once we’ve got a group organised. This includes which canyon we actually visit!

If you’re keen to come, let me know:

  1. Your previous canyoning experience, if I haven’t canyoned with you before
  2. How hardcore you are (0 = I might come if you can guarantee I won’t get wet, 10 = let’s get a first descent during the middle of winter when it’s snowing)
  3. If you are able to drive and if so, what type of car (2WD, AWD, 4WD)

Feel free to ask me questions via email or facebook!
