Canyon Details:

This is an exploratory canyon. There are no track notes, and I don’t know of anyone who has been there before (or even if people have descended it). That said, here are my predictions about what to expect:

It runs through the banks layer of sandstone. It is short canyon, only 200m long. I expect the constrictions to be tall and narrow – you might need to abseil with backpack hanging from harness to fit through the canyon. The vertical relief is 60 to 80m. There will probably be 1-3 abseils of up to 30m. I am quite certain the longest abseil will be shorter than 50m. The canyon will be mostly dry. If there is water, it will be in small potholes and maybe knee- to waist-deep.

It should take us no more than 6 hours return, probably less.

Ropes and Progression

Minimum stuff to bring is a 60m rope, 60m pull cord, and a 30 or 40m rope. Another short rope would be nice, if someone is willing to grab one from the club locker.

If there aren’t any anchors we will have to build them from scratch, which may take a while. If we can’t progress through the canyon any further, we will have to prussik or climb out. We will set up abseils on single rope, and convert them to double only if we want to retrieve them.

Car: black Subaru impress AL54LX (I think)
