Hi Guys!
This coming Sunday (the 3rd of September) myself and the enigmatic Victor Grantham are gonna lead a team of 8 game adventurers into the depths of the temperate Springwood rainforest! This isn’t for the faint of heart though: the track that I’m thinking of doing is the Sassafras Gulley Loop track, a 10 km mammoth effort rated at a grade 4 difficulty at wildwalks.com (Sassafras Gulley Loop Track).
The weather on Sunday looks promising, so we might as well start the walk somewhat early, so here’s the plan:
- Meet at the south end of platform 18 at Central Station at 7:35am
- Catch the Richmond train (from platform 18) at 7:51am
- Arrive at Blacktown Station at 8:36am and GET OFF THE TRAIN!!!!
- Walk to the Blacktown Station Bus Stand M (Follow the signs for the buses to Penrith/Lithgow)
- Catch the 5BM bus at 8:43am to Springwood
- Get off the bus at Springwood and look for a guy with a blue hiking bag, black shirt, and a straw hat (i.e. me!)
- Begin the hike!
Here’s what you should probably bring:
- 3 Litres of Water (you can chuck some out along the way if its too much)
- A Hat
- Decent running/walking shoes (i.e. no thongs)
- Lunch and some snacks
- Sunglasses for extra gangsta points
- A jumper (it can get cold in the shade in the gulleys there)
- A backpack to carry it all in!
We will probably be hiking until at least 3pm, perhaps even 4pm, but we’ll probably finish up the hike with a visit to casa del David (i.e. my home) for some tea and biscuits.
If you have any questions about this hike, please feel free to contact me on facebook, or send a text to 041 399 1231, but otherwise, get keen!
